About VOPHA
Virtual Ophthalmology Academy is an idea to create a unique learning & teaching platform for Ophthalmic professionals and industry. VOPHA is all set to address the needs of our present and future generations. We aim to capitalize the potential of online presence, engagement and collaboration at its fullest.Â
We are inspired by existing seasoned societies and academies like AAO, APAO, ESCRS and ASCRS who have contributed in past and are still contributing a lot in the field of Ophthalmology. In our view we can still add value by adopting online technologies to push the limits and boundaries of traditional summits and conferences.

To provide an accessible, affordable and sustainable virtual ophthalmic teaching and learning ecosystem with global reach.
Thus, our specific objectives are to:
- Coordinate international eye health and allied professionals
- Increase training opportunities for eye health and allied professionals, both regionally and internationally
- Organize periodic regional and international virtual meetings to advance teaching and research in eye health and allied professionals
- Cooperate with regional and international sister organizations, associations, academies and universities in the development of research and on-line virtual ophthalmology teaching capability.
Who We Are
The Idea
The concept of virtual platform for ophthalmology was incepted and envisioned during last quarter of 2019, it took few months for the idea of VOPHA (Virtual Ophthalmology Academy) to take shape. The idea of a platform where Ophthalmic Health Profession can engage, collaborate, contribute and learn came into picture as we were able to successfully live broadcast, and present series of 16 training lectures Phaco Cataract Course. Ultimately we were able to launch vopha.com on 1st of January 2020. The 16 training lectures on Phaco Cataract are now available on VOPHA LMS as e-learning course, accessible from this link https://eyeacuity.com/courses/phaco-cataract-course/.

The Motivation
We, two brothers, Dr. Zia ul Mazhry and Engr. Zia ul Mazafary have always been thinking, a way to present a tribute to our Late Father Master Ali Muhammed. Right from our childhood we have seen our father helping neighbors, relatives and community without aiming at worldly gains. He was a school teacher married to our mother Nisar Fatima another school teacher. We always observed both of them demonstrating integrity and eagerness to help others selflessly. Our parents nurtured and groomed four daughters and three sons. All daughters graduated from a major city of Pakistan, elder son graduated as doctors and two sons graduate as engineers. We lost our brother Zia ul Mudassary at the age of 34 in 2018 suffering from cancer, he carried the legacy of our father as much as he lived. As he left this world the urge to give back the society grew even stronger. VOPHA is the answer of our curiosity that how we can give back to national and international community. The tradition to do good for others has always embraced and empowered us to be what we are today.

The Inception
The idea of VOPHA is the result of convergence of professional skills of an ophthalmologist and technical skills of an engineer. Both of them spent more than two decades in developing their own careers independently. Today, Dr. Mazhry is HOD WAPDA Teaching Hospital and CEO of Acuity Eye Center and Engr. Mazafary is Founding Member / COO of COTHM Dubai and Unilakes, Australia. Three years ago the two brothers started engagement to leverage online technologies to reach out to our community. The result and feedback of all such efforts gave birth to the Idea of doing something that is more meaningful and substantiative to serve the masses.
